A new study led by researchers at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health has found that older adults who nap frequently may face a significantly higher risk of developing dementia. By tracking nearly 1,000 Medicare beneficiaries aged 65 and older over a 10-year period, the study revealed that individuals who napped on most days or every day had a 48% higher risk of a dementia diagnosis compared to those who rarely or never napped. This increased risk remained present even after accounting for factors like age, existing health conditions, and overall nighttime sleep duration. The researchers also noted that unintentional napping—such as nodding off unexpectedly—was tied to a 39% higher risk, while short naps lasting 30 minutes or less were associated with a 40% higher risk. Crucially, the authors emphasize that these findings do not prove a direct cause-and-effect relationship, meaning that taking a nap does not inherently cause brain damage or cognitive decline. Instead, frequent or worsening daytime sleepiness is considered an early warning sign or biomarker. The underlying neurodegenerative changes associated with early-stage dementia can damage the brain regions responsible for regulating wakefulness, leading to increased fatigue and daytime dozing long before memory loss or other clinical symptoms officially manifest. Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff escaped unhurt after unidentified men allegedly opened fire at his BMW in Mumbai’s Juhu area. The incident occurred near Pushpa Park, under Juhu police station limits, while Shroff was reportedly returning home after playing football. Mumbai Police said the actor was safe and had not suffered any gunshot injury, though his driver and an autorickshaw driver were reported injured in the firing. Initial accounts say three motorcycle-borne assailants fired multiple rounds before fleeing, prompting police to cordon off the area, examine CCTV footage and launch a manhunt. A social-media post attributed to gangsters Anil Pandit and Harman Sandhu claimed responsibility in the name of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, but police have not verified the claim or established a motive. The investigation is ongoing.

Baggs Two people have died and three others were injured in a shooting involving five victims Sunday night on Edmondson Avenue in Baltimore, according to police. Officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert around 10:25 p.m. in the 2800 block of Edmondson Avenue, where the shooting occurred in the parking lot of a BP gas station. At the scene, police found four victims suffering from gunshot wounds: a 34-year-old woman and three men, ages 20, 24 and 48. Officers provided emergency assistance before the victims were transported to nearby hospitals. A fifth victim, a man whose identity has not been released, later arrived at a hospital on his own seeking treatment for gunshot wounds. Authorities confirmed that the 20-year-old man and the 34-year-old woman died from their injuries. The remaining three victims are believed to have sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Investigators believe multiple shooters may have been involved and are examining the possibility that a high-powered firearm was used. The investigation remains ongoing as police work to identify those responsible. Further details about the victims and a possible motive have not yet been released.
A 4-year-old dog survived more than 50 hours alone in the snowy Alaska wilderness after an avalanche separated her from her owner. LouLou, a beloved huskydoodle, disappeared during a hike near Eklutna Lake after an avalanche injured two hikers, including her owner. Both men were rescued and hospitalized, but LouLou was nowhere to be found. After days of searching, two rescuers followed a new AirTag signal by helicopter, hiked 20 minutes through the snow, and finally heard the sound they had been hoping for: LouLou barking back. The remarkable rescue brings an emotional end to a frightening ordeal.
