Are you scared of death? 💀 A Memento Mori is an object that reminds the beholder of their own mortality. Throughout history, this took on different meanings. At times it served as a reminder to enjoy life and the present, at others it served at a religious reminder that judgement day was near. This bronze skeleton, just over 110 mm high, is a special type of memento mori called a larva convivialis, given to revellers at a banquet or feast. Even when the Romans were enjoying themselves, they still were reminded of their own mortality. Want to see how Memento Mori changed throughout history?
