Sirga having the zoomies 😜

But there’s much more to this clip. This was just after I’d said goodbye to her before leaving for my trip. We’d already spent plenty of time together, and I’d put her collar back on, which is why I asked her not to jump anymore. A lion with the zoomies is quite enough for my body to handle without a collar in the mix! 😅
Usually, once Sirga gets her food, especially after we’ve spent time together, she gives it her full attention and acts as though I’ve ceased to exist. Running in and out of her little gate like this isn’t something she normally does either.
I can’t know exactly what she understands or how she picks up on it, but I believe she senses, on some level, that something is different. Moments like this make me feel that even more strongly. It made saying goodbye so much harder, but there was also something comforting about feeling that she understood.

I can’t wait to be back with her! First, though, I have a few more appointments across Germany and Switzerland before heading home to the Kalahari and Sirga.

And for anyone wondering: our team @modisawildlifeproject is doing an amazing job caring for Sirga and keeping everything running back home. I’m incredibly proud of them and so grateful to work alongside such wonderful people. 🩶
