This work isn’t without its challenges.

When we say greening African cities, we don’t just mean planting trees — we mean navigating complex community dynamics.

At one of our sites, youth groups digging holes for tree planting were threatened by individuals who had encroached on the land. It was a tense moment that could have stopped the project.

But instead of walking away, our Tree Officer and the youth took a different route — dialogue. They engaged local officials and held open discussions with residents on land laws, public space, and community safety.

The result?
🧓🏾 Community elders showed up on planting day
🌿 Buy-in grew across generations
🤝 And a shared sense of shared ownership began to grow

What we learned:
✔️ Start engaging the community early
✔️ Dialogue builds trust
✔️ Transforming land starts with transforming relationships

We now know that tree planting isn't just about the environment — it’s about reclaiming space, building unity, and making sure everyone is part of the vision ✨
