We incentivize women and youth to create community forests in their own neighbourhoods.
Building greener cooler African cities, one tree at a time 🌳

Thank you for being part of our mission to change lives — one tree at a time 🌱

In 2025, we supported over 100 young men and women to plant 15,000 trees in their neighbourhoods, earn a steady income, and transform their local environment.

Your support made this possible — and we’re deeply grateful.

More impactful projects are coming in 2026, so stay tuned.

Let’s keep building cooler, greener, more equitable African cities… one tree at a time🌳

🌱 Planting trees in schools is officially the new cool.

This year, our youth groups have been greening public schools across Nairobi — turning bare compounds into future forests. Along the way, they’re teaching students the power of environmental care first hand.

Know a public school that needs more trees?
Send us a message and let’s green it together — one tree at a time 🌳

Every tree planted is more than a number.

It’s a promise — of a greener future, a cooler climate, and a fairer world for all 🌍

That’s why young people across Kenya are stepping up. By planting and nurturing trees in their own neighbourhoods, they’re becoming eco-leaders and eco-preneurs — restoring the planet while uplifting their communities.

If you’re one of them, this is your sign to keep going 💪🏾

And if you’ve been thinking about planting your first tree… the best time is NOW 🌱

Meet some of the incredible young men and women of Thika who rolled up their sleeves and planted trees right in their neighbourhood.

In July 2025, over 5,000 new trees took root — bringing hopes of cooler air, greener spaces, and stronger livelihoods.

We’re tracking their growth every month and paying the youth for every tree that survives.

Stay tuned for more green updates from Thika 🌿

These 2 films will make you rethink plastic forever!

Back in June 2025 during #WorldEnvironmentDay, we attended the inaugural @nairobiclimatefilmfest in Kenya. And while they screened various films from different countries, these 2 hit us hard.

🚮 Dumped by @greenpeaceafrica exposed the devasting effects of Kenya's largest dumping site in Dandora Nairobi.

🧴While #PlasticFantastic from Germany travelled around the world to meet the producers, the affected, and the hidden facts of plastic.

The takeaway was clear: Plastic pollution is not only a environmental problem but also a climate issue that affects all of us. And it requires our immediate action just as much as planting trees 🌳

Read about both of them in our latest newsletter (link in bio) And let us know if you've watched any of these powerful films 👇🏾

This work isn’t without its challenges.

When we say greening African cities, we don’t just mean planting trees — we mean navigating complex community dynamics.

At one of our sites, youth groups digging holes for tree planting were threatened by individuals who had encroached on the land. It was a tense moment that could have stopped the project.

But instead of walking away, our Tree Officer and the youth took a different route — dialogue. They engaged local officials and held open discussions with residents on land laws, public space, and community safety.

The result?
🧓🏾 Community elders showed up on planting day
🌿 Buy-in grew across generations
🤝 And a shared sense of shared ownership began to grow

What we learned:
✔️ Start engaging the community early
✔️ Dialogue builds trust
✔️ Transforming land starts with transforming relationships

We now know that tree planting isn't just about the environment — it’s about reclaiming space, building unity, and making sure everyone is part of the vision ✨

What challenges have you faced planting trees?

Here's your little reintroduction to Miti Mitaani 🌳

Founded in April 2022, we're led by a passionate team of 3 with a mission to champion tree equity and climate resilience in African cities. Because the cities we call home are facing rampant deforestation and rising temperatures 🌡️

How? We empower urban youth and women to plant and care for trees in their neighborhoods. As a result, they create greener cooler environments and earn a sustainable monthly income 💸

Since we began, we’ve grown from planting 300 trees in 2022 to 14,000 trees in 2025. Working with over 200 young people and women across Nairobi 🌱

And we’re just getting started!

Do you care about youth, climate action, and greener cities? Follow our journey, and be part of the movement to green African cities — one tree at a time 💚

Here's how tree planting is changing mindsets 💪🏾

Philip, chairman of Wisemen Environmental CBO, says being part of our tree stewardship program gave them more than just income — it gave them purpose.

💚 It helped shift how the community sees them
💚 It proved that young people can thrive through meaningful work
💚 It opened doors to animal farming and new opportunities

How about you? What does youth empowerment look like to you? 🤔

What can change in 3 years? A lot 🌱

On our recent visit to Wisemen CBO Park in Kasarani Nairobi, we were blown away. Not just by the green buildings — but by the transformation all around it.

🌿 A cool lush environment
🐓 Poultry, pig and fish farms
🎍 Even bamboo seedling propagation

This is what happens when young people are supported to plant and take care of trees in their neighbourhood. And earn a living through climate action.

Miti ni ajira. Trees are employment. Do you agree?

"The breeze here makes you feel good.” says Philip, chairman of this Nairobi youth group.

In 2022, we started working with Wisemen Environmental CBO through our tree stewardship program.

3 years later, look what they’ve grown:
💧 A carwash that earns them income
🐔 Poultry, pigs — and even fish farming
🌿 And a greener, cooler neighborhood full of beautiful bird songs

As they continue to create their community park in Kasarani, their future looks clearer, brighter and greener. Don't you think? 🌳

A green environment is a healthy one — not just for us, but for all living beings 🌱

Every time we see once-bare urban spaces transformed into thriving green zones, we're reminded why our tree stewardship program matters.

Trees don’t just beautify our cities — they clean our air, cool our spaces, and restore balance to our ecosystems.

Let’s keep planting, nurturing, and protecting trees — for our cities, our communities, and our planet.

What’s your relationship with green spaces? 🌿

What can you achieve within 9 months?

For Githurai Scouts Centre in Nairobi, they have big plans for the funds earned from our tree stewardship program. That is to renovate their office and open a vocational training centre for high school graduates in their community 💫

They want to equip youth with hands-on skills like driving, mechanics, and plumbing. Fighting youth unemployment while building brighter futures 💪🏾

Who knew planting and caring for trees could provide a practical pathway for transforming the lives of young people?
