Meet Ava - “Go back to your own country BXTCH!” girl This happened yesterday (October 14, 6pm) at the University Minnesota campus in front of Coffman Memorial Union building where Riley Gaines American conservative political activist, podcast host, and former collegiate swimmer was speaking at a Turning Point USA 🇺🇸 event There is zero enjoyment in this for me, it’s all a damn shame and as you can see from the video it’s the opposite for her and all her friends smiling and laughing like it’s all a big joke I know the person she was yelling at and it’s hurtful and so unnecessary. I won’t hold my breath for an apology or accountability I sadly expect a doubling down and the victim card to be pulled but I sincerely hope I’m wrong People make mistakes but this has to stop 📍University of Minnesota
Read that headline again. Then notice how reasonable the NYT makes it sound. Trump canceled the livestream. He did not cancel the state-sponsored firing squad. On December 3, the U.S. military still plans to shoot a man to death at Fort Hood. It will be the first military execution since 1961 and the first Army firing squad since 1945. The last public execution in this country was 1936, when 20,000 people watched Kentucky hang a 26-year-old Black man named Rainey Bethea. We stopped out of shame. The firing squad was the throwback before the camera ever was. Now notice how this feels. Two weeks ago the firing squad was the outrage. Then came the camera, and the firing squad became the baseline. Now the camera is gone, and a government shooting a man to death reads as the moderate option. Nothing about the execution changed. Only our sense of where normal sits. This is the pattern, and it works on all of us. Threaten the unthinkable. Retreat to the merely terrible. Collect credit for “restraint.” The Overton window is supposed to describe what a society will consider. He runs it in reverse, shrinking what we’re still able to be shocked by, one spectacle at a time. We saw it with ICE this year. Shock and awe until we were numb. The killings kept going while the attention drained away. Anyone who has lived with an abuser knows the shape of this. The threat, the partial reprieve, the gratitude you’re supposed to feel for a cruelty slightly smaller than the one promised. It’s a control tactic, and it only works if we accept the new baseline. So, no. The death penalty is still racist, still arbitrary, still deadly inaccurate, still cruel and unusual, and still barbaric with the cameras off. States are still doing this: South Carolina shot three men last year, and in one case the autopsy showed the bullets mostly missed his heart. Trump didn’t do something good. He stopped doing one extra bad thing on top of a bad thing. December 3 is still on the calendar, and the U.S. machinery of death is still fully operational. Hold the line where it was. #deathpenalty #firingsquad #FortHood #abolition #criminaljustice
Miami is such a vibrant and colorful city with such amazing architecture! With just 24 hours, I tried to see and experience as much as I could! Miami has one of the world’s most amazing skyline and I got to see it while on a cruise here. It IS breathtaking! Exploring along vibrant Ocean Drive, South Beach and learning about the history of all the famous buildings is incredible. Took a quick stop at the Wynwood Walls and even caught an artist working on his wall! While I was there, of course I had to try the Best Gelato in town! It was so yummy! Next, had to stop at Little Havana and even went to a Cuban Cigar Factory and had a sample of a very strong cup of Cuban Coffee! Lastly, I could not leave Miami without trying Cuban food and having a Mojito! CHEERS to Miami!! Love this city and definitely need to come back for more! #solotraveler #miami #blessed #thankful #explorer
