From Greece to Afghanistan: The journey of Hellenism. This silver plaque with gold appliqués, dated to the 3rd–2nd century BC, is known as the Ai-Khanoum plaque. It depicts Cybele, the ancient Anatolian Mother Goddess, riding a chariot drawn by lions—symbols of sovereignty, protection, and untamed nature. Ai-Khanoum was founded shortly after 330 BC, following Alexander the Great's conquest of Bactria. By the early 3rd century BC, it became a major city of the Greco-Bactrian Kingdom, ruled by descendants of Alexander's generals. Greek temples, a theater, inscriptions in Greek, and a gymnasium stood thousands of kilometers from the Aegean. Cybele's presence here is remarkable. Her cult originated in Phrygia centuries earlier and spread to Greece in the 5th century BC, before reaching the eastern Hellenistic world. This plaque shows her transformed rendered in a fully Hellenistic artistic language, yet charged with Near Eastern and cosmic symbolism. The sun, moon, and star above suggest divine universality, not a local deity, but a goddess meant to rule the world. The use of silver and gold indicates elite patronage, likely connected to royal or high-status religious practice. This was not decoration it was ideology in metal. Far from being a remote frontier, Ai-Khanoum was a crossroads where Greek philosophy, Persian tradition, and Central Asian belief systems merged. #ancientgreece #afganistán #kybele #bactria #ancienthistory
Drake faces a lawsuit over “Janice STFU.” Songwriter Aviel Calev Hirschfield alleges its chorus is “literally identical” to his 2026 demo. He says he sent the hook to producers FNZ before “Iceman” dropped. “Fifteen seconds in, Avi was stunned to hear Drake perform word-for-word, note-for-note, beat-by-beat, the exact same chorus that he (Avi) had recorded and sent,” the lawsuit alleges. His demo reads: “Reach me, baby/ Call my phone and say you need me, baby/ I’m so green, you gotta teach me, baby/ From Vancouver, you a BC, baby/ Pull up Maybach, beep beep, baby/ And my shit came with the heat seats, baby/ Swear my label gotta free me, baby/ Blow on me just like some green tea, baby.” Drake’s attorneys allegedly “shamelessly refuse to acknowledge Avi’s authorship,” despite receiving his audio files and metadata. “Drake and/or his representatives are instead taking the absurd position that Avi — a massive fan of Drake who has co-written a hit song with him in the past and has aspirations of working with him in the future — has manipulated the metadata in his recording files to make it appear (falsely) that the copyrighted work preceded ‘Janice STFU,’” reads the complaint. “Such a deception would constitute career suicide by Avi.” Hirschfield co-wrote Beyoncé’s “Heated” with Drake. He is suing Drake, OVO Sound and Universal Music Group, alleging they “robbed Avi of the reputational benefits and substantial compensation he deserves for his contribution to Drake’s biggest hit in many years.” He wants credit and royalties. Drake’s representative declined comment.
