ESSIEN AGAINST BARCELONA
We asked @henry_rich about one of his favorite Chelsea memories:
“We had just come back from the nou camp, wearing one of my all time favourite Chelsea 3rd kits. Yellow and blue, have always loved it when Chelsea wore yellow.. The first leg was a very tense 0-0. Back the the bridge and this time it was Barca who were sporting their beautiful eluminous yellow away jersey. The atmosphere at Stamford bridge was amazing, the Barca fans packed out the entire shed end and backed their team in electrifying fashion. Essien opened the scoring with a swing of his left peg, striking the ball on the volley in off the crossbar past Valdez’s.
The game was pure chaos, Chelsea were up against one of the best Barca teams we have ever seen. It was Penalty shout after penalty shout, two absolutely clear handballs. One by pique and another by Abidal.
Barca went on to score a late equaliser by iniesta and the tie finished 1-1 Barca through on away goals.
A true classic champions league semi, and another legendary game between Chelsea and Barcelona.”
