Imagine having to remember digits of pi just to turn the volume down. That’s the kind of problem programmers invent for r/badUIbattles, a Reddit community dedicated to making basic digital tasks painfully difficult. Entering a phone number becomes a battle with sliders. Selecting a birthday turns into a guessing game. Even a checkbox might only cooperate half the time. The challenge is to build an interface that technically works while making you regret every click. Judging by the submissions, making something this annoying takes considerable skill. Lesson 6 πŸ’Œ: You don’t have to change who you are or how you look to be taken seriously. Looking back, I don’t think it was the complaint itself that affected me most. It was what I took away from it. That perhaps if I dressed a little differently, wore less makeup, made less effort with my appearance, blended in a little more… people might take me more seriously. And I think we have all been there… Changed something about ourselves, not because we wanted to, but because we worried about how we might be perceived. Of course, there are professional standards, dress codes and safety considerations. I’ve spent my career in medicine, and I understand their importance. But there’s a difference between dressing appropriately for your job and feeling you have to dull your personality to be respected in it. At the time, I was a young medical student. I didn’t question it. I just put on scrubs and got on with my day. And perhaps that’s the bit I’d do differently now. Not necessarily the clothes, but the assumption that someone else’s judgement of my appearance must mean there was something wrong with it. As I raise my daughters, I want them to understand that feedback is important, but not every opinion requires them to change. You can be feminine, enjoy fashion, love makeup, wear pink shoes AND be intelligent, capable and professional. One doesn’t cancel out the other. And I wish my younger self had understood that a little sooner. Have you ever changed how you look or dress because you worried you wouldn’t be taken seriously?

Comment INTERESTED if you want to know WHERE i did this. Not everything that heals you comes with scientific proof. 🌿 Ayurveda is over 5,000 years old. Millions of people swear by it. But does it really work? Ayurveda has been practised in India for thousands of years, and millions of people swear by its benefits. I’ve been exploring different Ayurvedic treatments, from traditional oil massages to Shirodhara, herbal therapies and more. Some of these practices can be deeply relaxing, and certain elements, like yoga and meditation, do have scientific evidence supporting their benefits. I do think there’s value in exploring traditional wisdom with an open mind. What do you think? Is Ayurveda ancient wisdom, modern wellness or a little bit of both? Peta satelit memperlihatkan fenomena janggal. #wakandatalks #kebakaran #karhutla #indonesia #peta
