A Congress MP has been sacked from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) after 11 female students accused him of sexual harassment, including allegedly offering higher marks in exchange for sexual favours. Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, the Congress Lok Sabha MP from Inner Manipur, was dismissed from his professorship on October 9, following an internal inquiry. Delhi Police subsequently registered an FIR against him on October 11. The allegations first surfaced in May 2026 after a student reportedly shared her experience during a viva examination in a students-only WhatsApp group. Other students subsequently came forward, accusing the professor of making sexually suggestive remarks in classrooms, inviting women to gatherings at his campus residence and making inappropriate advances. Some alleged that he linked additional examination marks to accepting his advances. JNU’s Internal Committee examined the complaints, witness statements and other evidence. According to documents cited in the police complaint, the committee identified an alleged recurring pattern of inappropriate personal interactions, sexually suggestive conduct and unwelcome physical contact, creating a hostile learning environment. The committee recommended major disciplinary action, although some student representatives reportedly favoured a lesser punishment. Vice Chancellor Santishree D Pandit subsequently approved his dismissal. Following the university’s action, JNU’s Chief Security Officer approached Delhi Police, leading to an FIR at Vasant Kunj North police station under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita concerning sexual harassment and insulting a woman’s modesty. Police have begun investigating the allegations, which reportedly concern incidents between July 2025 and May 2026. Akoijam has denied wrongdoing, describing the proceedings against him as a “witch hunt” and questioning whether the university followed proper procedures. Meanwhile, BJP’s Mahila Morcha protested outside Congress headquarters, accusing the party’s leadership of shielding its MP. On October 13, a delegation of BJP women MPs also approached President Droupadi Murmu seeking his suspension from the Lok Sabha.
🇺🇸 “I always loved these beach photos of Michael Betti when the staff of Christopher’s Restaurant took a trip to Fire Island in the mid 1980’s. Michael worked at Boots and Saddles for many years. He was partners with Paul Mayled of Christopher’s. Michael was the more quiet one of the two but they had a great balance of personalities. Paul passed first and Michael followed a couple of years after in the mid 1990’s. This was back when we were still dreaming and praying for effective medications.” 📖 by Patrick Arena @patrickarena #whatisrememberedlives

🌼 To all the chickens of patriarchy… As long as men are in power, some men will r@pe, others will assault, rest will support and character shame you, remaining will help them get bail and acquitted… You will sit at home covered and shackled, assaulted & ruined to nothing… praying in darkness for your daughter’s brighter future… 👉 @techieprettygirl - The patriarchy you’re supporting, is the same philosophy, which till date keeps millions of girls uneducated, unemployed, forcefully married, sells into prostitution, forces them to become a baby factory, uses their bodies and abuses girls beyond repair, r@pes & murders wives/children/animals…. The same philosophy that denied women entry in schools & universities, financial freedom, property rights, voting, travel, ownership, leadership, religious and any human basic right you can think of… . . . #womensupportingwomen #feminism #strongwomen #womenempowerment #nabysinha [chickens supporting kfc, chicken of patriarchy, women voices, women rights, women empowerment, women empowering women, feminist voices, women rise, feminists together]
