After the blockbuster excitement of last year’s creative reset, brands are becoming more deliberate about the talent they invite to their shows. This season, established ambassadors and global fandoms continued to drive social engagement, with Thai drama stars eclipsing K-pop idols for the first time to dominate the overall ranking, according to influencer marketing platform @Lefty.Io. Brands also looked to more niche talent that better align with their ethos than an A-list name. @AmyFrancombe_ has the top 10 brands that ruled social media for SS27, at the link in bio. I found out what my username means this weekend. For the first 23 years of my life, all I knew was organized athletics. Training several hours a day with one goal in mind: Win. Win the race. Win the game. Win the match. But one day, the ball stopped bouncing. Everything I knew about what it meant to compete, train, and remain healthy was flipped upside down, and I had to relearn what that meant for me. And that’s where the idea of being a Semi-Retired Athlete was born. At first it was learning how to go into a gym and lift without a strength coaching giving me a piece of paper to follow. Then it was learning what aerobic endurance was when I trained for my first half marathon in 2024. And then finally, this weekend completing my third world major marathon in Chicago. But it wasn’t until this weekend that I truly found out what my goal was in this entire process of navigating life as a Semi-Retired Athlete. And that’s because the goal is now ambiguous. There is no “winning” anymore. The goal can be whatever I want. And on Sunday, I found out what that goal is for me: to have fun. I don’t want to be the fastest. I don’t want to PB. I literally want to go out and have fun. Maybe that means doing a keg stand at Mile 24 of a marathon. Maybe that means running out of storage in the middle of the marathon because I was recording myself singing @remiwolf too many times. Maybe that means waking up every Wednesday at 4am to go run with @run0440. Maybe that means doing a @hyroxworld in Barcelona with zero training and zero time goal in mind. It means training to feel GOOD and doing it with the people I love. And there might come a day again when I want to be the best - PB a race, maybe come in 1st place at something. But right now, that’s just not for me. And that’s the point. I can choose whatever I want my goal to be. I have never enjoyed fitness more in my life. And that is what being a Semi-Retired Athlete is. Go have some fun.
A recent inquest has concluded into the death of 12-year-old Mia Shay St Hilaire, who suffered a fatal allergic reaction after drinking a milkshake contaminated with hazelnut residue at a south London cafe in 2023. Mia had a known hazelnut allergy, with the contamination linked to an unwashed blender used to prepare her drink. Her parents are now calling for a separate food allergy management rating for businesses, arguing that existing hygiene ratings do not show how well allergens are managed. #TSB #TSBNews
