Cicada Parade

Counting down to Cicada LOVE! While costumes, wings, and on-key singing are completely optional, I’m sharing a bit an inspiration.

This periodical cicada costume won me a $25 gift card** in 2023 when I wore it for Halloween. My favorite part was walking my cicada-festooned self to Jefferson Park at 9 AM and asking strangers if they’d take photos of me.

Kudos to the neighbor who was unfazed and agreed to take photos.

* Fly-over country based coworkers didn’t actually dress up. They instead submitted photos of the previous year’s costumes. 🙈
** I used all $25 to buy OTC flu meds.
