Jefferson Park is under appreciated. She’s gorgeous in every season except “leave your chicken bones on the grass” season. by @cicada.parade

Found a dead Megatibicen Auletes friend while distributing flyers. I brought them with me to the park, did a photoshoot, and eventually brought them home. by @cicada.parade

Counting down to Cicada LOVE! While costumes, wings, and on-key singing are completely optional, I’m sharing a bit an inspiration.

This periodical cicada costume won me a $25 gift card** in 2023 when I wore it for Halloween. My favorite part was walking my cicada-festooned self to Jefferson Park at 9 AM and asking strangers if they’d take photos of me.

Kudos to the neighbor who was unfazed and agreed to take photos.

* Fly-over country based coworkers didn’t actually dress up. They instead submitted photos of the previous year’s costumes. 🙈
** I used all $25 to buy OTC flu meds. by @cicada.parade

Squeee Yee! Squeee Yee! Flyers will be distributed tomorrow! See you on Saturday! by @cicada.parade

Eeeeeee!
Behold this big chonk of an annual cicada (Megatibicen grossus) that I found in my backyard! He’s the largest cicada in North America and while his greens aren’t as bright as the other Megatibicens, he’s magnificent.

When I picked him up, he clicked loudly at me which I didn’t expect. I moved him to the Chinese Pistache tree so he could SCREEEEEEE with his pals.
