Uber wants to eliminate the drivers with self driving cars. The famous shop owner guy is already opening the door to what will eventually try to replace us in the same way. Fun times.

As a 36 year tattoo artist, I say tattoo artists, especially young ones give too much of a fuck about what the next guy is doing and too little of a fuck about developing their own artistic skills. People are going to get the tattoos they want. AND drawing on paper and skin is becoming a rarer and rarer skill. Stay at that shit or you look like a tattoo tracer to me, not a tattoo artist. Art is theft.

Yeah pretty simple difference ethically imo, flash was made to be tattooed by other people (consent), AI uses stolen work (lack of consent). Pinterest is a weird middle ground where if its small/ simple enough (symbols, tiny line drawings of flowers, mountains, etc.) no one can claim originality. If someone came in with a larger tattoo that someone clearly drew from imagination, then it’s safe to say theres not consent.

Personally if you’re in a street shop make it your own and move on. But, as far as draftsmen are concerned, I would hope that your portfolio isn’t full of these images. Just my opinion, what do I know 🤷‍♂️

Using google is using AI, Ai uses google images. for 25 years i’ve watched people print off google images, trace, and make it their own. Hate to say it but so long as there is tracing involved it’s the same thing. people that can’t 100% draw on the spot reclaim, that’s been part of the business all along. What’s important? integrity of the work, client approval and satisfaction.

If its tattooable do the tattoo(if it needs redrawn do that), talk to them like a normal person, bullshit with them, ask about their life, make the experience as nice as possible, get paid, tell them thank you.

I think if you have a good idea but need a piece of something to pull the idea together it’s not the worst thing. What if you want a specific styled image and need a jump point then you take that and you run with it customizing it and all. You just sped up the process instead of starting with just basic sketches. If used to help make the process easier then I feel that’s fine but if you just ai print it out and do it that’s recipe for disaster sometimes because you might not notice it but lot of it isn’t anatomically accurate. How often you see ai pieces with 7 fingers or something lol

Run it. At the end of the day tattooing is tradecraft, not fine art. Make your clients happy, give them a good product and a great experience.

i would want to make it my own, because perhaps one or more aspects of the design are unclear, or it might be lacking style, or not support the placement they want. old flash was made and distributed to be tattooed, but AI has not gone through an apprenticeship in the application of tattoos, and is just thieving other artist’s work, with an advanced degree in adobe.

AI is a fantastic reference generator. Not perfect. Just like any other design you find you have to make it your own. I use a.i. all the time for the initial image and then once my hands are on it its not soulless anymore
