The youth-led Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has issued a 48-hour ultimatum demanding the immediate resignation of India’s Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), Gyanesh Kumar. Led by founder Abhijeet Dipke, the group has announced to launch nationwide protests beginning from Mumbai on October 2, 2026—followed by a massive indefinite sit-in termed “Jantar Mantar 2.0” in Delhi—if Kumar does not step down.

CJP’s agitation stems from an Indian Express report revealing internal conflict within the Election Commission of India (ECI). The report alleged that Kumar ignored objections raised by fellow Election Commissioners regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, which critics and opposition groups claim led to the wrongful deletion of millions of voters to benefit the ruling party.

CJP’s 3 core demands are:
1️⃣The immediate resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar and the initiation of criminal proceedings against him for allegedly undermining voter rights.

2️⃣An immediate halt to all upcoming elections, a complete freeze on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, and the restoration of the January 2025 voter lists pending an independent, judicially supervised inquiry.

3️⃣The complete repeal of the 2023 law governing the appointment of Election Commissioners, to be replaced by a new framework allowing broad civil-society and independent institutional participation.
