The Replacements’ 1986 appearance on Saturday Night Live is legendary for all the wrong reasons. The Minneapolis band stumbled through “Bastards of Young,” with Paul Westerberg shouting an uncensored “Come on, fucker!” before returning for “Kiss Me on the Bus” visibly more intoxicated, wearing mismatched clothes and delivering one of the most chaotic musical performances in the show’s history. The band appeared on January 18, 1986, while promoting Tim, their major-label debut released the previous year. According to SNL musical director G. E. Smith, the group drank heavily backstage after the dress rehearsal, and guitarist Bob Stinson even broke his guitar before the live broadcast. The incident reportedly earned the band a lifetime ban from the show, cementing their reputation as one of alternative rock’s most gloriously unpredictable acts. #TheReplacements #SNL #BastardsOfYoung #PunkRock #AlternativeRock
Some things in life you simply cannot prepare your heart for. 💔 Just days ago, we were on set in Atlanta, bringing yet another story to life. Never imagining those moments would become memories we’d have to hold on to so soon. Beyond your undeniable talent and dedication to your craft, what will always stand out to me is the beautiful spirit you carried. Always so incredibly kind, never a negative word about anyone or anything, never a complaint. Just a genuine smile, a joyous heart, and a warmth that made everyone around you feel welcome. Regardless of what you may have been facing in your own life, you never allowed it to overshadow the kindness you extended to others, and that speaks volumes about the man you were. You built a body of work and a legacy deserving of recognition and celebration. It’s heartbreaking knowing there were still so many stories left to tell, dreams to fulfill, and flowers you deserved to receive while you were here. My prayer is that your name continues to be spoken, your work celebrated, and your kindness remembered. To your family and loved ones, my deepest prayers and condolences. Thank you for the memories, the laughter, and most importantly, the example you set simply by being a genuinely good human being. Your presence was a gift. Your kindness was your character. Your work is your legacy. 🙏🏼 Job well done, Hakeem. Rest peacefully 🕊️🤍
