Itโ€™s no secret that GLP-1 medications, like Ozempic, Wegovy, and Mounjaro, have helped millions of people across the globe โ€” including professional athletes โ€” with weight loss, appetite regulation, and blood sugar control. That said, there are many, many side effects that come with taking the increasingly popular drugs. For example, youโ€™ve probably heard of the term โ€œOzempic face,โ€ which refers to the sagging of the facial skin that can occur after extremely rapid weight loss. Per the Cleveland Clinic, some more GLP-1 side effects include nausea, hair loss, and โ€œOzempic buttโ€ โ€” aka muscle loss in the backside. Well, this week on X, several social media users discovered a lesser-known side effect that some GLP-1 users have reported experiencing: โ€œOzempic vagina.โ€ In response to a viral post about โ€œthe rise of Ozempic vagina,โ€ one user tweeted, โ€œa close friend verified that it happened to her and she let me see but more importantly, she let me gasp and laugh in shock because that MF really slid DOWN.โ€ The post quickly racked up more than 3 million views and has prompted several people to question: What on earth is โ€œOzempic vagina?โ€ Well, according to Medical News Today, โ€œOzempic vaginaโ€ or โ€œOzempic vulvaโ€ refers to changes in the โ€œappearance and comfort of the genital areaโ€ following rapid weight loss. Per the outlet, people who have experienced โ€œvulvovaginal changesโ€ report experiencing โ€œloss of volume and plumpness in the labia majora and mons pubis,โ€ โ€œsagging or wrinkled skin,โ€ and โ€œchanges in the shape of the vulva.โ€ (To be clear, there is no official scientific research that reports on โ€œOzempic vagina,โ€ and while weight loss can certainly result in looser skin in the genital area, other factors โ€” like fluctuating hormones โ€” might also explain changes.)
