One year ago today, @jimwmorrison skied the Hornbein Couloir on the north side of Everest — 9,000 feet of no-fall zone. October 15 will always be a special day for me. The kind of day you dream of in the mountains — a tier one team of friends, everyone showing up and doing what they were there to do, no fuss, just execution. And of course the beauty and the shared hardship. A year has marched by and my memories of the day have already dulled. I went back through the photos to sharpen them again. I’ve long considered the direct north face the ultimate ski line on the ultimate mountain. Watching a friend dream, commit, persevere through it all, and then ski it with confidence was impressive and satisfying. Many of these pictures are of the team from the seven years and three expeditions it took to pull it off. The Sherpa team, the climbing team, the production team. The odds of failing were always better than the odds of succeeding, and they showed up anyway. You can’t ask more of a team. Grateful for all of these extraordinary human beings. And Jim, your one of one. Thank you for the years of friendship. Everest: The Other Side is in theaters and IMAX October 30.

Research on sensory processing shows that adults experience a measurable shift in auditory sensitivity after age 25, with the ability to distinguish speech from background noise declining steadily each decade. A 2018 study from the National Institute on Deafness tracked 2,400 participants and found that the average person requires 6 to 8 decibels more volume by their mid thirties to achieve the same comprehension level they had at twenty. This change often goes unnoticed until media consumption highlights it, such as turning on closed captions during shows or conversations in noisy rooms. The same data set revealed that people who begin using visual text aids report 34 percent higher satisfaction with dialogue heavy content. Those who resist the switch frequently underestimate how much cognitive effort their brain now expends decoding muffled speech. Save this for the next time you reach for the remote. #subtitles #aging #sensoryprocessing #millennialproblems #hearingloss
I am absolutely laughing my ass off! Meghan the “Klugscheißer”—one of my favorite German words. It describes a know-it-all: someone who acts like they’re so clever and intelligent. Literally, it’s “cleverness-shitter” or “smart-shitter.” Definitely not a compliment! In these photos, Meghan looks like she’s not happy about having to spend time bagging food. She seems to hurry the woman along, and her expression changes in a way that reads as frustrated and annoyed. And why is she giving her that look? Meghan clearly doesn’t seem eager to be working at a charity food pantry. How hard is it to treat the charity workers with kindness and show a little warmth? She looks like she’s just going through the motions, knowing she’ll be leaving soon. She comes across as acting above the woman who works for the charity—but she isn’t. That woman gives her time to help others, something Meghan doesn’t seem to understand. If the charity needs help, ask the real royals—not the Temu Two.
