![repost from @keep.metal Happy Birthday Andy McCoy 🔥
(October 11, 1962)
The guitarist, songwriter, and rock 'n' roll rebel Andy McCoy, best known as the creative force behind Hanoi Rocks, one of the most influential bands to emerge from the European glam rock scene....🔥
Born Antti Hulkko in Pelkosenniemi, Finland, McCoy developed a musical identity that blended punk rock attitude, bluesy riffs, glam rock flair, and a distinctive sense of melody. Before Hanoi Rocks, he played with Finnish punk band Pelle Miljoona Oy, helping establish his reputation in the country's underground music scene...🎸⚡
McCoy became a central figure in Hanoi Rocks after joining forces with vocalist Michael Monroe. As the band's lead guitarist and principal songwriter, he helped shape classics such as “Tragedy,” “Malibu Beach Nightmare,” “Oriental Beat,” “Back to Mystery City,” and “Don't You Ever Leave Me.” Their 1984 album “Two Steps from the Move,” produced by Bob Ezrin, brought the band closer to international success and showcased McCoy's songwriting at its most ambitious.
Hanoi Rocks disbanded in 1985 following the tragic death of drummer Nicholas “Razzle” Dingley in December 1984. McCoy continued exploring different musical directions through projects including The Suicide Twins, Cherry Bombz, Shooting Gallery, and his solo releases, beginning with “Too Much Ain't Enough” in 1988. He also collaborated with Iggy Pop and later reunited with Michael Monroe for Hanoi Rocks' 2000s comeback....🖤🤘
Beyond music, McCoy is also a painter, reflecting the same restless creativity that has defined his career. His songwriting and style helped influence generations of glam metal and hard rock musicians....🔥
