A little bit of a reverse work in progress of both the painting and the sculpting of my latest piece: Tsuchykaa, First Scion of the Everqueen. You will be able to enjoy this process soon at @miniatureart_academy

The last step here includes preparing and adding the cherry blossoms, which is a tedious process that revolves around taking apart @gamersgrass cherry blossom tufts, and separating the flower from the leftover plastic hairs one by one. After that, selecting the perfect size and shape of little branches of sea foam tree, painting them manually, and glueing the petals, to finish of by cutting any sharp almost microscopic branch of said sea foam try with a precision scissor.

Painting wise, adding final levels of detail is always welcome and never ending.

With my magnifying goggles I took 7 days to add detail inside of the detail. Subdividing areas of detail this way was a first timer for me. Oddly satisfying.

The value and tone is right were I want it. And the bark has the right sensation. Time to put the goggles on. The arm is still not glued on to render several areas.

First sketch and refinement on the metal. I wanted to go for a way subtle yet nuanced reflective surface. The key here was adding the cherry blossom reflections and interactions way before actually adding them. I always enjoy reflecting surfaces.

First proper picture taken. Definition is still lacking and I was trying to get the right sensation for the bark. The main highlight here is adding breakages on it in order to add material differentiation. My friend @thibaut.rahm told me that this is an actual technique in Bonsai called Shari, which relies on removing the bark to generate scars on the tree in order to generate value and material differentiation.

Second session of sketching, you can see at least a little bit of definition and placement of values on materials. I wasn’t brave enough to take proper pictures.

First session of color. Using different approach than my normal one priming in black, I covered the mini with a bright grey primer from tamiya as recommended by my friend @andywardle_artwork instead of black made me use color and base coats in a different way. I just

“Once, I was so ashamed of my acne filled face, that I wouldn’t even step out of my bedroom. My skin hurt, I cried every time I washed my face, and I wished I could hide from the world.Today, I have built a space where women can feel confident, strong and free in their bodies. But this didn’t happen overnight…”

“Growing up in Dehradun, I was always the studious girl. I topped my school, got top marks in college, and by 23, I was already teaching as an assistant professor and doing my PhD. On paper, everything looked great. But inside, my health was a mess.“

“I had thyroid issues, and my periods barely came once in six months. Whenever I saw doctors, they just handed me pills and said, ‘Come back when you want to get married and have a baby.’ When the lockdown hit, my hormones went totally out of control. The medicines made me put on weight, and my face erupted with acne.“

“I felt so ashamed that I hid in my room for months. If my parents brought me food, I told them to leave the plate outside my door and go away. I just couldn’t face them. One night, tired of crying, I told myself: No one is coming to save me. I have to fix this myself.”

“I stopped looking for shortcuts. I fixed my daily routine sleeping, waking up, and eating at the exact same time every single day. I cut out junk, dairy, and wheat. At first, nothing happened. But after three months, the swelling cooled down. My skin started clearing, and for the first time in years, looking in the mirror didn’t scare me.”

“Feeling healthy again made me want to move. I tried yoga, but I had too much restless energy. Then I tried aerial yoga. The moment I hung from an aerial silk, something shifted. For years, I had hated how my body looked. Hanging up in the air, all I thought was: Look at how strong I am.“

“I started learning aerial arts, Pilates, and pole dance. When I posted my videos online, girls flooded my inbox asking, ‘Can you teach us?’ I knew how uncomfortable regular gyms felt, where women constantly pull at their clothes, wondering who is staring.”

“So, I decided to open a big studio made only for women, run only by women. These women…they don’t come just to burn calories; they come because i
