2,000 candles in the shape of Vacheron Constantin’s Maltese Cross on the steps of The Met’s Great Hall. The beginning of an exquisite evening hosted by Vacheron Constantin and The Met in the Temple of Dendur — celebrating the culmination of their inaugural Artisan Residency Program. That gallery can be filled with complicated decor. This night was about the opposite — the drama of the handmade. Three new works unveiled under 2,000-year-old stone — Aspen Golann’s monumental VESSEL, Ibrahim Said’s SHAPING TIME, and Joy Harvey's RUINED SPLENDOUR - BRONZE DIADEM — each born from 18 months of study in The Met’s collection and in Vacheron’s workshops in Geneva. A night built on one metaphor layered on another: the handmade precision of the watches, to the artists in residency, to the hands that carved the Temple itself, so many centuries ago. An extraordinary night of details, precision, artistry. In this age of uber fast digital advances, the slow triumphs of the hand and heart must be celebrated as well. Swipe — . . . 83 points and people still want to argue about it. Beas has a theory on why: if Booker breaks Kobe’s record, it’s a parade. Bam does it, it’s a debate. Beas isn’t looking. Bam’s the only player to ever take him down 1v1. Full episode on YouTube
Have you met Nyambeni? Those who tuned into @sesamestreet’s special episode at our Nairobi Nursery will know her as @elmo’s adopted elephant — and now, we wanted to tell you a bit more this special orphan! – We rescued Nyambeni in 2022, when she was just a tiny baby. She was saved by a farmer, who discovered her stuck and abandoned in a ditch. – Nyambeni’s best friend is Mzinga, who was rescued just a few months before her. – The Keepers call Nyambeni a ‘kali mama’ — fiery but nurturing, she is a nanny like no other! – Nyambeni is one of the naughtiest members of our Nursery herd. She does what she wants, when she wants, and makes her own rules. These are some glimpses of Nyambeni growing up. Now, she’s a sturdy four-year-old — with so much still ahead of her! — Like Elmo, you can adopt Nyambeni and support her journey back to the wild!
