Days 21 - 23 Split & Zadar - The roadtrip begins!
Split is a charming city. We weren't expecting much from it, having read online that some people give it a miss or use it exclusively as a jumping off point to the islands. But we thought it was quite lovely. The best part is the amazing Marjan park, also known as the lungs of Split. A huge park with gorgeous 360 views over the sea and city, and some amazing beaches too. Totally free to enter. The streets, as with so much of the towns in Croatia, are cute little cobbled stone, with beautiful old houses lining the walls. We hired a car on our last day and made our way to Zadar.
Zadar is home to a sea organ, one of only 2 in the world. It was really special to sit on the steps, listening to the music of the sea organ, and watching an epic sunset. We wandered through the old town in the evening and had some yummy street food and Croatian wine. We then headed back to our accommodation, getting an early night as we prepared for the drive to Plitvice Lakes at dawn.
