Days 24-29 Road tripping through Istria. Senj. Rovinj. Motovun. Groznjan. This was quite honestly the most amazing way to see Istria. The car was a big expense, but it was so worth it! Without the car we would never have managed to see many of the small towns, and there is so much charm and authenticity to them! We drove to Senj after exploring Plitvice lakes, and spent 2 nights there, largely taking the time to relax and enjoy the majestic view from our accommodation. Senj itself doesn't have a huge amount to see, so it's perfect for relaxing and enjoying the ocean. We then drove to Rovinj, taking the coastal road and passing through so many cute little villages, I can't even name them all! But it was a lovely scenic drive. Upon arriving in Rovinj we headed down to the Riva, taking in the beauty of Rovinj. We stopped for a glass of wine, enjoying yet another amazing sunset. We then decided to treat ourselves to a fancy lobster pasta, which was simply divine! The next day was cloudy and threatening to rain, so we headed out to Motovun and Groznjan, the storm clouds chasing us along the drive. Groznjan is known as the Artists town, and there are galleries galore, as well as people selling their artsy wares. The views along the route are spectacular, with the green countryside and vineyards on both sides, and a view of Groznjan and it's colourful houses on the horizon. Motovun is (yet another!) gorgeous little hilltop town. I so wish we had chosen to overnight there, it's too quaint for words. There are no cars allowed into it so you have to park outside and walk up. Aside from restaurants, galleries, and beautiful little shops, you are rewarded at the top of the town with some amazing views of the Istrian countryside! At this point the rain caught up with us, so we headed down the hill and popped into the wonderful Tomaz winery to share a wine tasting, watching the rain fall over Motovun. It was an amazing last day in Croatia ❤️ . . . . #croatia #istria #istriancuisine #travel #travelcroatia #senj #rovinj #motovun #groznjan #honeymoon #traveleurope #europeanholiday #photography #wine #winetasting #tomaz by @kira.timm
Day 24, Plitvice Lakes National Park - A UNESCO world heritage site. This one deserved a post of its own. Quite literally, the most exquisite place either of us have seen before. You know when you see those amazing drone videos over spectacular places, and then when you see it in real life, it's not the same? Yeah, that was not Plitvice! It's every bit as magical and enchanting as the images you see here (and on the Plitvice NP's Instagram page). We were lucky enough that it wasn't too crowded when we went, but going early is key. It probably helps that we went in the shoulder season, early September, so some of the crowds had gone home. It's so spectacular that I kinda wish we had been able to stay overnight in one the accommodations, which would have enabled us to do the longer route, and even visit the next day again without paying a second entrance fee. Anyway, the pictures speak for themselves! Gorgeous! . . . #croatia #honeymoon #europeansummer #plitvickajezera #plitvicenationalpark #travel #travelcroatia #plitvicelakesnationalpark #croatiafulloflife by @kira.timm
Days 21 - 23 Split & Zadar - The roadtrip begins! Split is a charming city. We weren't expecting much from it, having read online that some people give it a miss or use it exclusively as a jumping off point to the islands. But we thought it was quite lovely. The best part is the amazing Marjan park, also known as the lungs of Split. A huge park with gorgeous 360 views over the sea and city, and some amazing beaches too. Totally free to enter. The streets, as with so much of the towns in Croatia, are cute little cobbled stone, with beautiful old houses lining the walls. We hired a car on our last day and made our way to Zadar. Zadar is home to a sea organ, one of only 2 in the world. It was really special to sit on the steps, listening to the music of the sea organ, and watching an epic sunset. We wandered through the old town in the evening and had some yummy street food and Croatian wine. We then headed back to our accommodation, getting an early night as we prepared for the drive to Plitvice Lakes at dawn. . . . #croatia #travel #travelcroatia #split #zadar #seaorgan #zadarseaorgan #honeymoon by @kira.timm

Days 17-21 Stari Grad, Vrboska and Jelsa. Hvar Island. Words that resonate (because I'm lazy to type today and I don't really know if anyone actually reads these, lol 😅): Quaint cobbled streets. Trendy beach bars drinking Limoncello with prosecco Jem's birthday. Riding our bikes through the green vineyards. Wine tasting. Donkeys bleeting. Gorgeous coastlines. Stone rondavel in the middle of nowhere, that had a verrryyy eerie feeling to it - we did not go inside. The BEST food we've eaten in Croatia, ironically run by a Greek family. Finding benches with epic views. Today, we take the ferry to Split! I'm sad that we only have a week left, but my body is going to be very grateful for my own pillow and bed again soon. Days 13-16 Korcula, Croatia Korcula is known as little Dubrovnik, a much smaller, charming version of the walls and fortress that encloses the old town. The island was under Venetian rule for a long time, so there is a big Italian influence, with the smell of delicious pizza wafting through the old town. Almost every restaurant is a Pizzeria, and the rest are pretty much all seafood spots. We arrived in the afternoon, and spent it exploring the old town, with all it's little cobbled alleys and shops built into the stone walls. We had some yummy pizza for dinner and got an early night's rest. The next day, Jem and I ventured into Lumbarda, a region known for it's Grk wine, which you can only find here in Korcula. We wandered around the narrow, cobbled streets of the gorgeous countryside and visited 2 family run wineries. We then met up with the friends we made in Dubrovnik, who were visiting Korcula for the day. The 5 of us drove to Pupnatska Luka, a picturesque bay situated in the middle of the island, for a dip in the clear Adriatic waters, before heading into the oldest village in Croatia, the tiny town of Pupnat. We walked through the very short road and shared a glass of wine before heading out for dinner (pizza, again) and ice cream in the old town. The last day, Jem and I took a hop-on hop-off boat to a small island called Badja. The island is a nature lovers paradise, with some of the best swimming, walks, and relatively tame deer, who munch on fruit and veggies from visiting tourists. We then hopped back on the boat and went back to Lumbarda for some more wine tasting. Then back onto our boat again, and headed back onto Korcula to pack our bags for our early ferry the next day and had some, you guessed it, pizza for dinner 🍕 Today, we head out for the island of Hvar! ⛴️ #korcula #croatia #croatiafulloflife #visitkorcula #adriaticsea #korculaisland #summer #travel #dalmatia #vacation #hrvatska #sea #visitcroatia #visitislandkorcula #hvar #kroatie #island #honeymoon by @kira.timm
