GRiZ says he will find a new location for his Seven Stars festival after learning the event's current site was once a plantation. The second edition of Seven Stars happened earlier this month, Oc. 9-11, at Oak Ridge Estate & Farm in Arrington, Virginia. In a statement posted to social media, the producer noted that his team was previously made aware of the site's history and consulted with educators at the University of Virginia on the issue, but that the issue was never brought to him. "I had naively assumed that if an issue of this weight arose, it would be brought to my attention," says the artist born Grant Kwiecinski. "But true leadership does not allow for deflecting of accountability. This responsibility for what happens under my name sits squarely on my shoulders. This fell on my watch, and the failure is entirely mine." He continues that Seven Stars will not return to Oakridge Farm and that he and his team "are taking an intentional hiatus to search for a new home." More details at the link in bio.
The world has only known about our pregnancy for a few weeks, and I’m already feeling a shocking and sickening exhaustion from the thousands of comments like these that we’re receiving daily. First, take a moment to let the staggering applause for Sharon sink in. She left this comment on Hannah’s “first trimester recap,” which generally includes giddy photos of the two of us gleefully geeking about the early stages of parenting. A few days later, Sharon’s comment has 50,000 likes and counting. Let me be very clear: Sharon sucks. It takes a particularly wretched and disgusting personality to feel comfortable commenting negatively on a happy couple’s pregnancy update. I feel no desire or obligation to extend her grace, but I do acknowledge (and pity) that her underlying beliefs about disability and parenting probably stem from a lack of understanding and experience. So what, exactly, is Sharon not understanding? Two main things. 1- A physical disability, even one as severe as mine, does not preclude someone from physically engaging with their child or the world around them. Of course, adaptations are needed. Creativity is needed. I’ll push a stroller with my adaptive stroller attachment instead of my arms. I’ll use an extra pillow or supports to keep the baby safely on my lap. When baby becomes a toddler, I’ll give rides on my wheelchair, rather than carrying them in my arms. We know hundreds if not thousands of disabled parents with a wide range of physical function. They have found brilliant and practical solutions to enable physical care for their children in so many beautiful ways. This is our first rodeo, but we are not entering uncharted territory by any means. CONTINUED IN COMMENTS
Happy Halloween!! 🎃🖤 There is no Christina, only Zuul! Who ya gonna call? Ghostbusters (1984) is one of my favorite movies and I always wanted to make Dana Barrett’s (Sigourney Weaver) amazing orange and gold dress from when she’s possessed by Zuul, “The Gatekeeper” of Gozer! She seeks “The Keymaster” Vinz Clortho to open the inter-dimensional portal allowing Gozer to enter our world. If you’ve never seen this movie, or haven’t in some time, I recommend giving it a watch because it holds up! I made this Dana / Zuul cosplay myself using liquid chiffon. The fabric I ordered was more of a pink color so I dyed it to be closer to the color in the movie, which took awhile! More photos coming soon on this one! need to find a roof overlooking a city scape with a stone bench!
