This weekend, @omgivning_ joined the @laconservancy at the historic L.A. County General Hospital for two sold out days of tours and an inspiring panel discussion.
For the first time in decades, #Angelenos stepped inside this monumental 20 story Art Deco landmark (once the largest public hospital in the western U.S.) to walk its storied corridors, experience its grand murals and sculptures, and reflect on the generations of lives touched within its walls.
Damaged in the 1994 Northridge earthquake and largely vacant since 2010, the hospital is now at the center of a bold vision: a revitalized campus focused on housing and community well being. Through adaptive reuse, the building will once again serve Angelenos as part of a “Healthy Village” that brings new life to a site long dedicated to care and service.
As part of the weekend’s events, #Omgivning’s Founder and Principal, @karin_liljegren, FAIA, joined the panel discussion to share insights on the hospital’s adaptive reuse journey and to answer questions about its future transformation.
We are deeply grateful to County of Los Angeles Supervisor @hilda4lacounty, @primestordevelopment, Bayspring, and the @LAConservancy for opening the doors of this extraordinary building and creating space for the public to connect with its legacy before the next chapter begins.
