Honestly, I was hoping to enjoy this story a bit more…especially with such a beautiful cover!

I really liked the magical elements, especially the challenges that pushed Belle to reconnect with her powers. Those moments were whimsical and fun, and they gave me a glimpse of the book I had been hoping for. Unfortunately, this book dragggggged on.

The first half of the story is SOOO slow. We spend so many pages with Belle in her non-magical life—working at a bookshop, doubting herself to no end 🥱 In a book about witches, I expected magic to play a bigger role from the beginning.

I was hoping for more intensity, more romance, and more depth in the plot. Instead, a lot of events felt random, with world-building explanations popping up after the fact to smooth things over, and then I was just at the point of not caring anymore as I wasn’t invested in the characters or story.

There is definitely potential in the author’s writing. But overall, this debut didn’t fully come together for me. Curious to see what this author writes next, even if this particular story wasn’t a favorite! ◡̈
