Nigerian Woman Tr@fficked To Iraq, Locked In Dark Room As Employer Seizes Passport, Withholds $500 Salary The family of Tawakalitu Morenikeji Oyedeji, a Nigerian woman reportedly tra@fficked to Baghdad, Iraq, has appealed to the Federal Government to secure her safety and facilitate her return home following her father’s d+ath. According to SaharaReporters, the family alleged that her employer, identified as Engineer Asma, collected $800 from Tawakalitu after promising to arrange a flight ticket to Nigeria. She reportedly paid an initial $400 before being asked to pay another $400 the following day. Her employer also allegedly withheld her August and September salaries, totalling $500, bringing the amount involved to $1,300. The family said Tawakalitu had worked for about 16 months under a two-year employment contract when she requested to return home after her father became seriously ill. He subsequently d+ed on October 2, leaving her distressed over her inability to support his treatment. According to the family, she was locked in a dark room for three days without food or water, while her phone was confiscated. They also alleged that her passport was withheld and that her employer threatened to transfer her to another household to work for an additional two years against her wishes. As the eldest daughter, Tawakalitu was expected to participate in traditional burial rites following her father’s d+ath. Her family raised further concerns about alleged threats and an attempted p%isoning, urging Nigerian authorities to investigate, recover her money and unpaid wages, and secure her safe return.
