YNW Melly’s Murder Retrial Is Not Playing Around: Judge Summons 500 Jurors and Bans Public Seating After Tampering Allegations Blogged by: Grace L. YNW Melly’s upcoming double murder retrial will look a lot different this time around, as a Florida judge has ordered heightened security, confidential juror information and major restrictions on public courtroom access following previous concerns about attempts to influence prospective jurors. According to a 19-page order filed October 13, 2026, Broward County Circuit Judge Martin S. Fein outlined new procedures for jury selection, which is scheduled to begin January 6, 2027. The changes include summoning 500 potential jurors, conducting preliminary screening in groups of 50, and narrowing the available candidates to a panel of 60 prospective jurors. Perhaps the biggest change involves who can actually sit inside the courtroom. The judge has ordered that no public seating will be available during jury selection. Instead, members of the public will be able to watch and listen to the proceedings through a live audio and video feed. The restrictions come as the rapper, whose legal name is Jamell Demons, prepares to face two first-degree murder charges for the October 26, 2018, killings of Christopher “YNW Juvy” Thomas Jr. and Anthony “YNW Sakchaser” Williams. However, the new security measures are not simply about the rapper’s celebrity status. They follow troubling incidents surrounding earlier jury proceedings. Judge Fein cited previous inappropriate contact and attempted communication with prospective jurors, which required additional resources from the Broward Sheriff’s Office. Protecting juror identities and limiting physical access are intended to reduce the risk of outside interference while allowing the public to observe the selection process remotely. Concerns about jury interference have followed Melly’s case for years. In October 2023, prosecutors sought to conceal jurors’ identities after investigators reportedly discovered a notebook containing names and physical descriptions of individuals from Melly’s first trial inside the Miami home of his former codefendant, Cortlen “YNW Bortlen” Henry.

Winter in Paris: There was a time when wealth was worn differently. It was in the floor-length fur coats, cashmere beneath perfectly cut wool, silk scarves tied around the hair and leather gloves worn simply to cross the street. Pearls at lunch. Diamonds after dark. Men in heavy overcoats over dinner jackets, even when the evening required nothing more than a familiar table and a bottle of wine. Money was everywhere in Paris, but the oldest fortunes rarely needed to announce themselves. You saw it in the chauffeur waiting outside the hotel, the apartment overlooking the Seine, the same suite reserved every winter, and the family name already known by the doorman. Snow only made it more beautiful. Rolls-Royces sat beneath glowing hotel awnings while porters disappeared inside with leather luggage. Afternoons stretched across private balconies above the city, wrapped in fur with coffee, cigarettes and nowhere important to be. Evenings meant candlelit dining rooms, champagne, the opera, and returning through the snow long after midnight. The clothes were extravagant, but never temporary. A fur might have belonged to her mother. The jewelry had already survived another generation. The apartment, the art, the silver and the place in the country were simply parts of a life that had existed long before anyone photographed it. That was the difference between looking rich and being surrounded by wealth. Paris in winter was never about showing money. It was about living as though it had always been there.
