location details ‼️👇 follow @amanda.exploring for more travel inspo 😍 one of the most beautiful cathedrals I’ve ever laid my eyes on…. 🤯 we stayed in the cutest little airbnb just around the corner from the Cathédrale Notre-Dame-de-Strasbourg and it was the perfect location for the Christmas markets as well! Comment “Strasbourg” for the Airbnb info! When they say buildings can’t have aura, they were not talking about this one! The Cathédrale Notre-Dame-de-Strasbourg is a strikingly beautiful masterpiece of Gothic architecture. Once the world’s tallest building from 1647 to 1874, for 227 years, the intricate details of this cathedral and its massive size truly take your breath away. But the Cathédrale Notre-Dame-de-Strasbourg has endured many scars during its lifetime, proving itself as a symbol of resiliency. It was built in 1015 but was destroyed by a fire. The rebuilding of the cathedral finally finished in 1439. It has survived three wars, although was heavily damaged in each… through it all, the cathedral has remained standing. In WWII, it was ordered for all stained glass to be removed and dismantled. Fortunately, American soldiers discovered them in a German salt mine in 1945 and returned them to their rightful home 🥹 Learning this history and seeing the cathedral so unexpectedly had me emotional. You cannot miss it on your trip to Strasbourg and the Alsace region! Would you visit this cathedral?? #strasbourg #strasbourgcathedral #strasbourgfrance #cathedral #historicbuildings strasbourg city, visit France, cathedral, Europe cathedral, gothic architecture, Cathédrale Notre-Dame-de-Strasbourg, Alsace, Alsace France, Alsace region, beautiful places, must see France, Europe history
