The first snow has always felt a little magical to me. ❄️🤎 Ever since I was a little girl, the moment I saw those first snowflakes falling from the sky, I had to go outside . I would bundle up, step into the quiet, and just walk. There was something about that first snowfall that made the whole world feel different. Everything became softer. Quieter. Almost like time slowed down for a little while. And without even knowing what meditation really was back then, that’s exactly what I was doing. I would walk, breathe in the cold air, listen to the snow beneath my boots, and let my mind wander. I would dream about my future. Imagine the life I wanted. Think about all the things that felt impossible… and somehow believe they could happen. Looking back, maybe those were some of my first moments of manifestation. ✨ Not because I knew the word. But because for a few quiet minutes, I was completely present — imagining, believing, feeling. Even now, the first snow brings me right back there. Big flakes falling slowly. That unmistakable silence. The world turning white. And suddenly, I’m that little girl again, walking through the snow and believing that anything is possible. ❄️✨ Maybe that’s why the first snow will always feel like magic to me. The campaign to bring cars back to State Street through a voter referendum reached the minimum 5,400 signatures needed to potentially place the issue on the ballot during a future election. The Committee to Reopen State Street — backed by SIMA Corporation President Jim Knell — announced that the initiative gathered 6,000 signatures in just over three weeks, and the petition was submitted to the city clerk on Wednesday, October 14. For the past several weeks, paid signature gatherers were spotted outside grocery stores and shopping centers in the city, asking city residents to join in the referendum. The city clerk will now verify the signatures, and the City Council would then decide whether to repeal the ordinance or put the matter before voters during a future election. This is one of two potential referendums on City Council decisions; another petition against the city’s recently passed rent stabilization ordinance is currently gathering signatures citywide. 📸: Elaine Sanders (@elaine_sanders) / Santa Barbara Independent
