Comic book 🕸️ vs reality ✨ - Ps. I’m a nerd and always will be so if you want to nerd out with me keep swiping 👅 - #comicbookart #comic #wlw
Next up for the Service95 Book Club… “In 2000, Zadie Smith detonated the books world with White Teeth and has been part of our literary DNA ever since. She’s been compared to everyone from Dickens to Rushdie, which is staggering praise for a debut author barely out of university. This glorious and hilarious intergenerational soap opera of multicultural London spans the 20th century, told through the eyes of the Iqbals and the Joneses, two families you will never forget. It starts with middle-aged big-hearted loser Archie Jones attempting – and failing – to gas himself in his car, stung by a failed first marriage from which all he salvaged was the vacuum cleaner. He meets 19-year-old Clara, a recovering Jehovah’s Witness of Jamaican heritage, at an End of the World party in a North London squat, and life begins again. Archie’s friend Samad Iqbal, who looks a bit like Omar Sharif from a certain angle, is still waiting for his wife to be born when the two men meet in the last days of the Second World War. When Samad and Alsana finally meet at their wedding three decades later, she is more than a match - physically and mentally - for her much older husband. The next generation – twins Millat and Magid Iqbal and Irie Jones – ramp up the volume, pushing their parents to the limit as they challenge their ideas of home and identity. It’s a big, loud, boisterous and fiercely clever book. Reading Zadie play with the multitudes of language on London’s streets, and explore identity, community and the competing pulls of nature and nurture, is an unforgettable experience. No wonder this book became the literary landmark for a generation.” - Dua x Make sure you’re subscribed to the newsletter for the full #MonthlyRead experience, and join the conversation on the @service95bookclub podcast – coming soon.

@thejasminebrand : Do you have to be completely healed before entering a healthy relationship? According to therapist and author @kingjaybarnett , the answer is no. During a conversation with theJasmineBrand founder @itsjasminebrand , Dr. Jay explained that people can build healthy relationships while continuing to work through personal challenges, but self-awareness and communication are essential. “You can have a healthy relationship while you’re still healing if this person possesses the level of awareness that allows them to articulate and to communicate with their partner where they are on their healing journey,” he explained. He added that individuals must also be able to communicate their triggers, the areas they’re still working through, and the progress they’ve made. “It comes down to communication and it comes down to your ability to have been vulnerable with yourself.” Dr. Jay also reflected on his own healing journey, particularly his relationship with his father and how it influenced his ability to connect with other men. “The reason I can pour into men the way that I do is because I’ve healed my father wound.” He explained that unresolved issues with a father can create barriers to trusting and building relationships with other men. “It’s difficult to build a relationship with men. It’s difficult to be mentored by other men if you were not fathered well.” Through his own healing, Dr. Jay said he’s become comfortable expressing admiration and love toward other men without feeling that it threatens his masculinity. “I can tell another man I love him. I can give another man his flowers through words and give him flowers in real time and not feel that there is an indictment on my masculinity or my sexuality.” He also stressed the importance of recognizing emotional triggers before they negatively affect relationships.
