Prima Materia, acrylic on linen, 120 x 90 cm This painting was inspired by a few things, thinking about textures I also came across the lair of the Natterjack Toad at Hengistbury Head.
This endangered toad has a strip down its back.

At a similar time I did a course led by Chantal Powell about Jungian symbology and Alchemy and the Toad is a symbol for Prima Materia- the first matter ready to get transformed in the alchemical fire.
