Prima Materia, acrylic on linen, 120 x 90 cm This painting was inspired by a few things, thinking about textures I also came across the lair of the Natterjack Toad at Hengistbury Head. This endangered toad has a strip down its back. At a similar time I did a course led by Chantal Powell about Jungian symbology and Alchemy and the Toad is a symbol for Prima Materia- the first matter ready to get transformed in the alchemical fire. by @boudiccapaloma

Some install pictures from ‘Grids’ @aptstudiosgallery 2 person show with @rowanbazley of work made during our time on the Clyde Hopkins mentoring Award. Thanks to our wonderful mentors @alice_m_wilson and @davidwebbpaintings photos by @bjdeakin_photography An excerpt of accompanying text written by @georgia.anna.bloom Various Information The word ROBOT comes from the Czech word ROBOTA which comes from the Slavic root RAB which translates to the English words SLAVE or SERVITUDE. The word ESPRESSO does not mean fast. Rather it means PRESSED OUT or FORCED THROUGH. It comes from the Italian esprimere. To express, to squeeze the essence from. The GOLDEN TOAD or incilius periglenes was discovered in 1966, last seen in 1989 and declared extinct in 1994. Found only in a four-square-kilometre area of cloud forest in Costa Rica and bred in temporary pools. The male’s extraordinary orange-gold colouration served no camouflage function whatsoever. The cause of extinction was the chytrid fungus, accelerated by climate change reducing moisture in the cloud forests. by @boudiccapaloma
Final day to catch Boudicca’s show. On until 2pm Wednesday. Thanks to everyone who came along for the drinks and during the week. Good fun as always - and a cracking show! by @boudiccapaloma
Thanks to everyone who came to celebrate Shapes of Water opening @canalboatcontemporary last week. The boat is parked up in a beautiful spot by Victoria Park. Thank you @pushka_artist for inviting me to be on the boat and steering it! The show is up until 22/07/26 midday. 🙏🏽 📷 @lauralbellart by @boudiccapaloma
🚨NEWS FLASH🚨 Owing to arcane and mysterious waterway-custom we've had to move 100m along the canal for Boudicca's show TONIGHT. See new map! DRINKS etc - 5-7pm by @boudiccapaloma

NEXT IN THE BOX: Boudicca Paloma - Shapes Of Water Opening on the 15th and running for one week. Boudicca is no stranger to the boat - she showed in both our Miniatures shows, 2024 and 2025 - but this time she gets The Box to herself, with new work made especially for it. Boudicca is a London painter, Slade BA, Turps Studio Programme 2023-25. Last year she won the Clyde Hopkins Award at A.P.T. Her paintings splice Renaissance and Indian miniature painting with UFOs and neon 90s rave colour, circling identity and belonging in a world in flux. Lately she’s been painting faux fur - fetish object and ecological warning at once. As for where: we’re hoping for Victoria Park, but we haven’t moved yet and it depends on which mooring we can find. Location confirmed here as soon as we know. 🛶 @canalboatcontemporary 🎨 @boudiccapaloma #contemporaryart #gallery #canalboatcontemporary by @boudiccapaloma
