Marcia Lucas, the Oscar-winning film editor who was married to George Lucas and helped shape the original Star Wars trilogy, has passed away at the age of 80.

Lucas died Wednesday from metastatic cancer at her home in Rancho Mirage, California, surrounded by loved ones.

Marcia and George Lucas were married from 1969 to 1983 and collaborated on several projects, including American Graffiti and the original Star Wars. She won an Academy Award for Best Film Editing for Star Wars in 1977 and later worked on Return of the Jedi.

Many fans consider her one of the franchise’s most important behind-the-scenes figures, with some even calling her the “secret weapon” behind the original film’s success.

Her influence on Star Wars and filmmaking will not be forgotten.

Rest in peace, Marcia Lucas. 🕊️

The United States is reportedly planning a major restructuring of its diplomatic operations in Africa that could see the number of embassies and consulates processing visa applications reduced from 50 to 20.
According to reports, the move is aimed at consolidating visa services into 20 regional hubs across the continent. Nairobi, Kenya, is among the cities expected to remain a key visa processing center.
If implemented, applicants in countries without a designated processing hub may be required to travel to another country for visa interviews and related services, potentially increasing travel costs and processing times.
