$TIME’s annual Best Inventions of 2026 list highlights 300 groundbreaking products and ideas (plus 100 special mentions) that are changing how people live, work, play, and think about what’s possible. Editors and correspondents nominated entries, with extra focus on growing areas such as healthcare, AI, and green energy; each was judged on originality, efficacy, ambition, and impact. The issue is anchored by a cover story on Apple’s new CEO John Ternus and the company’s first foldable phone, the iPhone Duo. Other standouts include the 1X Neo humanoid home robot, WeWard’s Walking Mode app that requires steps before unlocking distracting apps, GoPro’s cinematic Mission 1 Pro ILS, Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra, and innovations ranging from quantum memory and AI-driven materials labs to medical devices that reduce hip fractures.$

Erik ten Hag picked a quiet Sunday to tell ESPN that Cristiano Ronaldo has been finished since Juventus. Ronaldo has not stopped scoring since, and the internet has not stopped laughing since about four o'clock this afternoon.

The best part is that nobody even asked. Four years after the Piers Morgan interview, Ten Hag is still out here answering questions Ronaldo stopped listening to in 2022.

Meanwhile at Anfield, Liverpool took 17 shots and did not hit the target once, and Arsenal walked off with a 1-0 win. Seventeen shots, zero on target. Even Ten Hag would call that a system problem.

Just a quick note about Halloween:

If you’re planning on dressing up in a costume this weekend that makes you look cool and/or attractive, just be aware that it’s actually going to have the opposite effect, to most people around you.

It took me many years to learn this, but, in fact, the stupider your Halloween costume is, the cooler and more attractive you actually become.

There’s nothing more disappointing than the guy who shows up to the party in sunglasses and his most stylish tailored suit, and when you ask him what he’s supposed to be, he says he’s an FBI agent, or one of the Men In Black.

Come on bro, just don’t even wear a costume at that point.

“Who, me? Can’t you tell? I’m Jason Statham from The Transporter 2.”

Good grief.

Nothing screams fun and whimsy like being too-cool to put on a little face paint or a pair of tights.

You don’t even have to invest a huge amount of effort into it either. Even just writing “BOOK” on your face and going as “Facebook” like Jim from The Office would be better.

Worst character in all of television, by the way.

Mopey simp with a superiority complex engages in adultery. America’s sweetheart of the aughts, ladies and gentlemen.

I think this year I’m going to dress up as a first edition copy of Douglas Coupland’s quirky 2006 postmodern tech comedy novel, JPod.

Because the only thing worse than being too-cool for halloween, is having a smug, hyper-niche costume, designed to go over everyone else’s heads.

*cue haunting Vincent Price laughter*
