Exile
Nothing this funny had ever been seen in Gelo.
He stepped out of the shattered metal, trembling a little, moved his mouth, and from the very first moment made us laugh — those long legs, those eyes with such perfectly round pupils.
We offered him grubas, files, and kialas.
But he wouldn’t take them. Can you believe it? Not even the kialas. Watching him refuse everything was so funny that the crowd’s laughter carried all the way to the next valley.
Word spread quickly that he was among us. People came from everywhere to see him, and he only looked more ridiculous each time — still rejecting the kialas, still making everyone laugh like waves breaking in a stormy sea.
Days passed. They brought margas from the other side of the world — same thing, he wouldn’t even look at them. We laughed until our sides hurt.
But the best part was the end: he lay down on the hill, face turned toward the stars, and stayed still. His breathing grew weaker, and when it stopped, his eyes were full of water. Yes — you wouldn’t believe it, but his eyes filled with water, real w-a-t-e-r!
Never, never had Gelo seen anything so funny.
