If the facts are as reported, the bigger issue is not the existence of the SC/ST Act itself, but whether a law meant to protect people from caste-based abuse is being invoked in cases where the allegations do not fit its purpose. An infant being named in an FIR would be particularly concerning if the allegation is based only on the child being present at a naming ceremony. Cases like this deserve careful scrutiny because genuine victims need strong legal protection, while the law should not become a tool for targeting people who had no meaningful role in the alleged offence.
