“Early vs Late Connector” 👐
#BlueChipHittingSystem
Bonds was a late connector and HLP forces everyone to be an early connector… 🤔
This is an example of an objective way to view the arms/hands in the swing. I am not stating that one is better than the other. I am simply observing how the hands naturally want to time up the ball. This pattern is often created at an early age and is a vital part of the hitter’s swing.
Early: The arms are almost “pre set” They are “connected” to the rest of the system early in the swing. They are often connected before leg lift or as the front foot comes off the ground.
Late: The arms are “active” They are not “connected” to the rest of the system until late in the swing. Often times they don’t get connected until foot strike or not until the “launch position”
If you watch some of your favorite hitters you can start to bucket some of these guys. It is important to understand how they are trying to manipulate the bat because it’s directly related to their timing. Forcing a style or a bias on a hitter is a guaranteed way to mess with their timing. For example: “Old school” hitting guys didn’t like the move Donaldson made. I watched a lot of coaches force players to “stop moving their hands” because it was causing them to be “too big”.
This mistake happens at the youth level all the way to the MLB…
