A24 has a new GOAT. 🐐👀 The studio has delivered some of the most celebrated films of the past decade, but ‘YOU CAN SEE EVERYTHING’ might be its greatest yet. Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim’s unconventional documentary about Elizabeth Holmes has earned the #1 spot on our ranking of the studio’s 24 best films. From ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ to ‘Moonlight,’ the competition was stacked. LINK IN @complexpop’s BIO to see our full list. 🔗
Introducing standing room mag Issue 02, with our cover star @grentperez There is a particular discomfort in growing up: the realisation that the person you are becoming might not have much in common with the person you once were. The things that came naturally begin to require consideration; the freedom of being young gives way to the awareness of how you are perceived. Somewhere between the two, it becomes difficult to tell whether you have outgrown an earlier version of yourself or simply learned to keep it in check. For Grent Perez, that tension has taken on a name. goose, his forthcoming EP, places Grent in conversation with Goose, a younger, more playful alter ego who appears to have little interest in the responsibilities of being an adult. Where Grent is measured by the person he has become, Goose offers a return to the instincts, impulses and irreverence that can get lost along the way. The two are not necessarily at odds because one is right and the other wrong. Rather, their conflict raises a more interesting question: what happens when growing up starts to feel like growing away from yourself? It is an idea that gives goose a life beyond the familiar exercise of an artist reflecting on personal growth. The relationship between Grent and Goose creates room to examine the competing versions of ourselves that coexist, often uneasily, beneath a single name. There is the person we present to the world, the person we believe we ought to be, and the one who still wants to do things simply because they feel good. Maturity might mean learning to live with those differences, rather than deciding which version deserves to survive. #ICN GOA DAY1 We finished in the top 3 and earned a pro qualifier in the overall, but honestly from the judges reactions when they saw me on stage I thought the hammer was coming home this time. Sometimes, the universe just wants you to wait, grow, and become your absolute best before giving you what you truly deserve. I would’ve been more than satisfied with the overall win, but going from feeling like I was right there at the top to falling just short has left me with more hunger than ever. One thing I’m proud of is that @farhanbaig1996 and I have brought a better, more conditioned package every single time I’ve stepped on stage. And that’s not changing! I can’t wait to see what a full year of improvement brings. Better development, unreal conditioning, and a truly world class package. Locked in. Not done yet!
there’s something really special about coming back to the place that raised you. i spent so much of my childhood cheering for michigan, going to games, and making memories with people who are still such a big part of my life. getting to come home and play the sport i love, even in a different jersey, is something i’ll never take for granted. my roots will always be here, but i’m so thankful for the life i’ve built in nebraska. two places that will always have a special place in my heart. ❤️💛
