Love the little journey to Toronto this painting took me on! Grateful to have been a finalist in the
@kingstonprize with 29 other incredible artists and ultra-grateful to
@sydney.f.pascal who allowed me to paint her!
My portraiture practice has been a way to combat the idea of “Terra nullius” or “nobody’s land” and to show the presence of Indigenous people. Highlighting the everyday and relishing in the ordinariness of being is a small way to demonstrate our ongoing presence and multiplicities. Recently I’ve been enjoying a practice of gifting flowers to sitters and thinking of all the flowers in art history that get to live on through paintings - it reminds me that we are infinite.
