volume four: the nature of rot and rebirth 🌱

this issue also didn’t make it to publication, just because i felt as if there was nothing special about it. i was very focused on the perception of this magazine, and not enough on the things i was making. but then i turned on some music, and suddenly the ideas were hitting me left and right again. this one is a bit shorter, a bit all over the place, but i think there’s something a bit defiant about it. it reminds me of tree roots fucking up sidewalks. i also admire the throughlines of sex, violence, consent, and trauma, because i think one thing that i’ve learned about human nature is that people lust for power. people love to have something over another person, because it cements the ground underneath them. but one thing about pedestals is that someone can push you off them at a moment’s notice. there’s a certain primal feeling associated with healing. i find it turns us into rabid animals until we find the solution within ourselves. we find love beating inside us, and we tear ourselves open to hold it. but why?

i find this issue to be a bit daunting, and maybe that’s why it took me so long to plan it. i’ve been having a lot of those moments, and yet i persisted through. and some beautiful things came about from them. i planted a seed and monsoons came through and drowned me, but i took root in something deep within, and i blossomed through.

this issue is pretty special to me, i realize. maybe this is what i was always meant to do. maybe this is all in my nature. maybe it’s in yours as well. plant something, and watch it grow. i dare you.
