Tonight, the Christmas lights are on.
The music is playing.
The stalls are full.
But facing the wrong way.
A year ago, we spoke up.
We sat in the meetings.
We raised our hand for small businesses.
And still, here we stand.
Invisible at our own front door.
They don’t see how “closing time” doesn’t exist here.
How sometimes the lights only switch off near midnight.
How home has to wait because someone else has nowhere to sleep.
They see a stall.
A space.
A spot to fill.
We see a lifeline.
This Christmas, we weren’t included in the market.
But we didn’t build this place to be included in events.
We built it to include people.
And even with our door blocked,
our menu copied,
our voice drowned by a generator —
We are still here.
For Sandwell.
For the families.
For the lost.
For the cold.
For the ones who need someone to stay a little later.
Because that’s what community really looks like.
And community doesn’t need a stall to be seen.
We’re open till 11 hidden behind tarpaulin 💕🌸
