Within one day of announcing this so-called “truce,” the RSF launched drone strikes on Dilling, El Obeid, and Omdurman, and attacked a displacement camp in El Obeid- making any claim of an agreed “ceasefire” meaningless.

This announcement is not peace- it is a PR maneuver by a genocidal militia, immediately following their execution of one of the deadliest extermination campaigns in modern history. It is an attempt to absolve themselves and reset international outrage.

Our organization Decolonize Sudan, alongside Sudanese research and policy centers like Fikra for Studies and Development, have repeatedly warned: “ceasefire” is incompatible with confronting an ongoing foreign-backed genocide. You cannot negotiate a ceasefire with a militia actively trying to erase entire communities.
