NOVEMBER ‘25 READS
This month’s theme was INDIGENOUS PEOPLES HISTORY. As a long time student/re-enactor of US history, the history of what has systematically been done to the native people of the Americas is so overlooked/downplayed that we often forget just how atrocious the game against them has been rigged.
So I figured a refresher course was in order & these 2 recent publications were a good intro.
IPHUS is an intricate look into the entirety of what has been done to every tribe within the US & Canada. From extorting then rejecting treaties to the fixation of the “assimilation”/elimination of all tribal culture.
MR was a good segue way into a more niche topic that was discussed in a few chapters of IPHUS. It recounts the trauma/abuse at the “Indian Boarding Schools” the federal gov forced Native people into sending their youth, & how the experiences of the author’s mother shaped their family.
