I’ve officially completed my first semester at ASU.
It’s been over a year since I posted an actual post, not just a story or note. I figured it was time to share some of my life right now.
This semester has honestly been the dream. Sure, the academics are a struggle, and majoring in music makes it so much harder. I’m really pushing myself so I can be better in the future. Despite the endless homework assignments and learning how to live on my own, it’s been so, so fun to make so many new friends and to experience new experiences. This is the social life I wanted in high school, and now I finally have it. I still have a ways to go, though.
In the music world, I’ve made mass improvements. Having two bassoon lessons a week with amazing teachers has given me so much clarity about my instrument and my sound. Being in college marching band was much more demanding than I anticipated, but it’s worth it. I was even able to start taking tuba lessons the last month of the semester.
One of the biggest changes in my life has been the urge to march drum corps again. After watching the finals performances in 2025 with my friends, I knew I had to do it again. Being in the Sun Devil Marching Band and the School of Music has allowed me to connect with so many wonderful people who’ve marched in a variety of corps. The help and support I’ve received from them and the rest of my friends has been amazing. I’m currently on callback for the Boston Crusaders, and I hope to receive a contract and march with them, but there are so many obstacles in the way. Regardless of the outcome, I have already learned so much.
Thank you to my family and all my amazing friends, new and old, for being awesome and supportive people. Thank you ASU for providing me with a great experience so far. Forks up! 🔥☀️🌵
