had to document 🤗🤎

After 30 years in internal medicine and losing 68 pounds myself after menopause, I wish more women knew these 7 truths about weight loss.

I’ve watched women work incredibly hard, follow all the familiar advice, and still feel frustrated. Often, the problem isn’t effort. It’s understanding what actually moves the needle.

1. Healthy foods can still cause weight gain. Nuts, olive oil, and avocado are nutritious, but portions matter. Healthy eating doesn’t automatically create a calorie deficit.

2. Your weekends may be undoing your weekdays. A calorie deficit Monday through Friday can disappear with two days of larger meals, drinks, and extra snacks.

3. Your metabolism probably isn’t broken. Menopause changes fat distribution, while age-related muscle loss can affect calorie needs. Your approach may need adjusting, not abandoning.

4. Losing weight without protecting muscle is a mistake. Protein and strength training help preserve the muscle you need for strength, mobility, and long-term health.

5. Constant hunger isn’t proof your plan is working. If you’re miserable all day, your approach may be too restrictive. Protein, fiber, and satisfying meals can help.

6. Exercise doesn’t erase overeating. Movement is essential for health, but it’s easier than you think to eat back the calories burned during a workout.

7. Keeping weight off deserves as much attention as losing it. Your best plan is one you can sustain long after the scale reaches your goal.

I didn’t lose 68 pounds by punishing myself or following a crash diet. I used evidence-based habits I could actually live with.
