The artist Halimatu Iddrisu sources the focus of her practice from the marginalised lives of women within the Zongo communities of Ghana. Given the structures that comprise these communities, particularly affect the women, she addresses the complex lives of these women in her works. They take shape as paintings and photographic imagery but, in a sense, act as windows to the question of the lives of the women she is inspired by.

As part of this exhibition, she offers a look into the lives often overlooked.

THIS is what ocean protection looks like 💚 Southern North Sea Ocean Park is officially open! We’ve just placed giant boulders on the seabed to create a new Ocean Park completely off limits to destructive bottom trawlers. Imagine the outrage if a bulldozer was tearing through our National Parks on land, destroying habitats and decimating wildlife. That’s exactly what is happening everyday in our supposedly protected areas at sea. Across all of the UK’s Marine Protected Areas, bottom trawlers and dredgers tore through 55,600 km² of seabed in 2025 - an area 58 times the size of Dartmoor National Park. This MPA was created to protect harbour porpoises, where nearly 20% of the North Sea population live. . But the big weighted nets of a bottom trawler are scraping along the seafloor destroying their habitat, stripping the ocean of the fish they eat and killing them in their nets. This area was protected in name only - until now. But we can’t create Ocean Parks across the whole of the ocean, we need the government to step up and fulfill its promise to create ACTUAL Marine Protected Areas. Mother sentenced to 7 consecutive life terms after her 11-year-old daughter gives birth at home to her husband’s baby A woman in Oklahoma, United States, has been sentenced to seven consecutive life sentences after failing to protect her 11-year-old daughter from sexual abuse and then allowing the child to give birth at home without medical assistance after she became pregnant with the her husband’s child. Cherie Walker was sentenced to seven consecutive life sentences by a Muskogee County judge on Friday, October 30, 2026, per Oklahoma City Fox affiliate, KOKL and public Muskogee County court records reviewed by PEOPLE. Walker, 34, was charged with one count of child sexual abuse and six counts of child neglect in August 2025 after authorities learned that her 11-year-old daughter had given birth to a baby inside the family’s home without prenatal care or medical assistance on August 16, 2025, according to reports from local outlets. In a statement to KOTV at the time, Muskogee County Assistant District Attorney Janet Hutson said that both Walker and her husband, Dustin Walker, claimed that they did not know the child was pregnant when she gave birth. “This child is traumatized,” Hutson said. “She’s been through a horrific ordeal. I mean, not only has somebody gotten her pregnant, but she gave birth at home without medical assistance, and this will be her life for the rest of her life.” In another statement to KJRH, the district attorney’s office said that DNA testing confirmed that Walker’s husband — the child’s stepfather — was the baby’s father. Prosecutors later argued that Walker knew her husband was sexually abusing her daughter but did nothing to stop it. She was convicted on all seven felony counts on July 17, 2026. The child’s stepfather pleaded guilty to felony child sexual abuse and neglect charges in March. He was later sentenced to life in prison.
