Haiti’s independence in 1804 marked the birth of the world’s first Black republic and a turning point in global history. Beyond its own revolution, Haiti actively supported struggles for freedom across the world from aiding Simón Bolívar and participating in the American Revolution, to recognizing Greek independence, assisting Mexico’s liberation efforts, offering asylum to the enslaved, and issuing life-saving travel documents to Jewish refugees during the Holocaust.
Despite international isolation and economic hardship, Haiti consistently stood on the side of human dignity and emancipation, leaving a legacy that shaped liberation movements across the globe. 🇭🇹
