9 months agoWell said! This is definitely the similar portrayal of black women as well as motherly figures who serve as emotional support and comedic relief. And never to be a competitor so many Black women are either overweight and sassy OR the more common lesbian troupe. Now, LGBT black voices are deeply important and valuable but I find it very telling when these characters never have a black counterpart who is romantic competition. It is VERY telling. @katyho_
10 months agoOh God, just stop it already. There are shows that are the other way around. As a Latina with best friends who are white this just sounds ridiculous because it foments competition between women. Each of us are our own main characters in our own lives and life is not a TV show. Stop with the racism towards white people, all the other races have their own TV shows and we don’t care anymore about American shows needing to show something different, for that we can watch Hispanic Telenovelas or Asian dramas…😒
10 months agoThe real justice needs to be had for Lane, Christina and Mindy make something of themselves at least in their shows but I’ll never forgive them for Lane’s downfall when she was sweeter and cooler and smarter than Rory 💔
10 months agoI didnt realize how true this is. The same thing happens to black women being portrayed to "encourage/support the white MC" so glad PEN15 doesnt do this
10 months agoBlack best friend and sidekick too lol Cher Horowitz and her friend are the blueprint
10 months agoHonestly Christina yangs character is much deeper than just being Meredith’s best friend. She never shrunk herself to Meredith or lived in her shadow . Soo it’s confusing throwing her in as an example in the 3ish slide like she was just some side kick . Feels like the opposite of what it is
