In a blast of showmanship, Elon Musk has unveiled Tesla’s redesigned Roadster 2, nine years after the luxury sports car was first announced. This version, however, features thrusters that can send it airborne.

The two-seater car was revealed at a demonstration event at the rocket development and testing facility of SpaceX—which collaborated on the development of the new Roadster—in McGregor, Texas, on Thursday night.

Crucially, there was no human occupant during the demo, which Tesla and SpaceX CEO Musk said was “to make sure we don’t kill anyone.” Those assembled to watch in person cheered as the prototype drove upside down on a ramp using a suction system and landed using in-built thrusters.

“I’m not sure it’s necessarily legal in all jurisdictions," Musk said of the car’s “flying” technology. “This is not necessarily a safety-optimized car.” The Federal Aviation Administration did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The Roadster 2 was first announced back in 2017, with Tesla taking deposits in 2018 and saying deliveries would begin in 2020. Last night, Tesla said production would finally begin in 2028.

Musk has a long history of not following through on his loftiest product ambitions, and timelines for many Tesla releases have repeatedly missed targets.

Mississippi officials have determined that a police officer was justified in a shooting that k*lled a 1-year-old Black boy outside a Walmart earlier this year.

On Monday (Oct. 19), Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch’s office announced that no criminal charges would be filed against the officer involved in the June 14 d3ath of Kohen Wiley (pictured), who was f*tally shot while sitting inside a vehicle with his mother in Senatobia, Mississippi. The decision follows an investigation conducted by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation.

The sh00ting occurred after officers responded to a reported sh*plifting incident involving diapers and baby clothing at Walmart. According to authorities, officers attempted to stop a vehicle carrying Kohen, his mother, Vellesiya Wiley, and another woman. Investigators initially claimed the driver accelerated toward officers, nearly striking one of them, prompting an officer to open fire. Kohen was k•lled, and the woman driving the vehicle was cr•tically injured. Neither woman has been charged with shoplifting.

However, Kohen’s mother has disputed the police account, maintaining that the vehicle was not driving toward officers. Civil rights attorney Ben Crump, who represents the family, previously revealed that an independent autopsy indicated the bullet that k•lled Kohen entered from the side of his chest. Crump argued that the findings challenged the official explanation that the officer fired because the vehicle was approaching law enforcement.

The child’s d*ath sparked protests and demands for accountability, with his family repeatedly calling for authorities to release body-camera footage of the sh00ting. During an emotional press conference, Kohen’s mother said:

“I watched my baby take his first breath, and I watched my baby take his last breath.”

Despite the family’s concerns, the Attorney General’s Office concluded that the officer’s use of deadly force was justified. We continue to send our condolences to the family 🙏🏽
